I must start out by saying that I really love Winter. This comes from a privileged background of a roof over my head, warm clothes and access to a heating device be it hot water bottle, fireplace or heater. However, my love of Winter is coupled with despair for those who dread the cooler months as it gets so much tougher if you are sleeping rough.
Autumn this year was quite a warm one and so far, three days in to June, it has still been reasonably warm. The sudden temperature drop as the afternoon drags on is becoming more pronounced though.
The cold of the Winter nights may be a little harder to enjoy though as this year I will be required to leave the warm cocoon of my doona to tend to our little baby and her night feed requirements. Will I feel the same longing for the months to stay Winter as the days get warmer and Spring approaches? Or will the countless loads of washing, including cloth nappies, that I will need to fit in to the small window of drying opportunity get the better of me and show me a new enthusiasm for the warmer months?
For now, I think I will just sit back with one of my favourite Winter indulgences and enjoy the warm cup in my cool hands.
