We had the privilege of looking after our neighbour’s place for a week from Boxing Day. This meant feeding a cat, looking after six chooks and tending to plants. Our neighbour has an amazing edible garden and we were told to help ourselves – which was delicious. We also got to watch the bees coming and going from the hive. It really felt like magic each time we crossed the creek in to her yard.
It took several days but the girls managed to pat each chook and even found one who enjoyed a cuddle. The chook in the second image we call Smuggles (formerly known as Smug Chook). She escaped the coup when she was newly introduced to her home and decided she would lead a gang of free range chooks who spent a lot of time over in our yard. The others were easily coaxed back within a few days but this one, oh she evaded capture for weeks. She would roost in a tree by the creek but not come within arms reach of any of us despite our neighbour returning each day with a myriad of plots and plans to capture her. When we were caretaking, she started to follow us back over to her yard and would let us put her away with the others at night. It got to the point where she stopped coming back in the mornings to our side however she waited for us on her side of the creek when it was time to come over to feed them.
Happy new year! I hope 2019 is treating you well so far. The 10 on 10 group that I was a part of last year has ‘gotten the gang back together’ for the monthly 10 on 10 blog loop. We each choose ten images from the preceeding month to share in a blog post. Each post links to the next photographer in the loop and I recommend you follow it all the way around the circle. A link to the next photographer can be found at the bottom of the gallery.
Continue through the loop here to see what the super talented Jennifer Blake of Blueberry Hill Images has been up to.
