Choc Peppermint Slice 250g plain sweet biscuits* 100g butter, chopped 1/2 cup (125ml) sweetened condensed milk 2 x 35g Peppermint Crisp chocolate bars, chopped coarsely Chocolate topping 200g milk eating chocolate, chopped coarsely 2 teaspoons vegetable oil *I used Marie biscuits Grease19cmx29cm slice pan; line with baking paper, extending paper 5cm over long sides. Process 200g of the biscuits until fine. Chop remaining biscuits coarsely. Stir butter and milk in a small saucepan over low heat until smooth. Combine processed and chopped biscuits with chocolate bar in a medium bowl; stir in butter mixture. Press mixture firmly in to pan; refridgerate, covered, about 20 minutes or until set. Meanwhile, make chocolate topping; spread over slice. Place back in the refrigerator until firm before cutting in to 24 squares. Clinic Check Up Day! I was quite nervous before the clinic appointment as I had noticed my daughter’s hip felt like they were clicking when she kicked around. I had never noticed this before. I was so worried we had gone backwards. Was it possible to go backwards??? I started to count up the times I let her go for ‘just a little bit longer’ in her brace free hour. I began to feel guilty. I also had a few questions for the specialist today as well. I had planned on writing them down but in my concern for the new clicking, had forgotten to pen them. When we went in to see our doctor he entered the room wearing quite a serious face where he has previously had a smile. My heart sank. He said he had just had a look at our ultrasound and there hadn’t been any progress. I was instantly relieved as I knew he hadn’t yet seen our latest ultrasound. Introducing Luca. This newborn shoot was booked in quite a hurry as Luca is already 4 weeks old (oh how time flies when you are on the rollercoaster of New Parents!) when his mother got in touch for photos. While we weren’t able to get some of the ‘typical’ newborn photos on the day, it was still such a lovely photo session. The final images were very well received by his parents which is what drives my passion for photography.
Ah, newborns. Master F was a tiny little one. This photo session was his first time out and about since getting home from the hospital and he handled it all so well! Newborn feet will always be my favourite part to photograph. He was so alert at times, soaking in the sights. Other times he slept so soundly.
Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) As we near the end of ‘Healthy Hip Awareness Month’ I thought I would share a little about our hip baby and hip dysplasia. Olive is now 3.5 months old and has been in her Dennis Browne Brace/Bar (DBB) for a little over 5 weeks. I knew very little about DDH until two months ago. Being our second child, I knew the Community (or Child and Family Health) Nurse was rotating our daughter’s legs in the hip joint to test for ‘clicky hip’ when she was one week old. I didn’t know what a ‘clicky hip’ indicated. The nurse told me that she wasn’t too sure on one of her hips. It wasn’t clicking each time but didn’t feel quite right and she recommended I get them looked at again in the drop in clinic in a week or two to see if it is still present. The nurse said the right hip was the concern. When I went to the drop in clinic, the nurse there felt the left hip was the concern. **Flashback Friday** There is something special about a maternity photo session. The excitement and anticipation give it a different energy to all other sessions. With this little baby due any day now, I thought this was an appropriate post for the first flashback Friday. Sarah was 34 weeks pregnant.
Choc Fudge Brownie Biscuits 250g butter, softened 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 3/4 cup caster sugar 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 egg 2 cups plain flour 1/4 cup cocoa powder 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1/3 cup finely chopped roasted hazelnuts 2/3 cup coarsely chopped dark eating chocolate 2/3 cup coarsely chopped milk eating chocolate 2/3 cup coarsely chopped white eating chocolate Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease oven trays and line with baking paper. Beat butter, extract, sugars and egg in a small bowl with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Transfer mixture to a large bowl; stir in sifted flour, cocoa and soda in two batches. Stir in nuts and chocolate. Roll level tablespoons of dough in to balls and place 5cm apart on oven trays. This is the start of so many things for me. The start of my blogging life, the start of me getting serious about my fledgling photography business going places and the start of sharing my life, and those I photograph, with strangers who will hopefully become friends. I will add photos from my own life as well as photos from sessions with clients. The aim is to post at least once a week and I will probably jump on the ‘Throwback Thursday’ concept if it has been a slow week photo wise. So sit back, grab your beverage of choice and please enjoy.
