Ah, newborns. Master F was a tiny little one. This photo session was his first time out and about since getting home from the hospital and he handled it all so well! Newborn feet will always be my favourite part to photograph. He was so alert at times, soaking in the sights. Other times he slept so soundly.
**Throwback Thursday** This photo session was a lot of fun but I had completely forgotten about it until I was cleaning up my computer files the other day. My brother was on university exchange in Oregon, USA in 2012/2013. With a bit of travel at the start, he was away for approximately seven months in total. He didn’t shave while he was gone as he wanted to grow what he affectionately referred to as his ‘exchange beard’. He was under strict instruction from our Mum that it was to be shaved off upon returning home but we had some fun before the clippers were plugged in! His appearance with the beard made me think of the proud, bearded men in portraits from the 1800’s. That was the inspiration behind these images. Obviously, a proper 19th Century gentleman would wear a tie but we didn’t have anything suitable on hand. Again, not totally true to the style/era as I am sure a proper 19th Century gentleman would have clean fingernails! My brother is a forester so the softness and cleanliness one would associate with a gentleman of that era is just not there. I hope you enjoyed viewing the little ‘costume’ photo […]
**Flashback Friday** This is a huge flashback. All the way back to 2010 and the first family portrait session. A big thank you to Jen, a colleague, for inviting me in to her home and giving me an opportunity to take photos of her and Ashlee. It was a great learning experience at the time and looking back at the pictures now, I can see even more aspects of my photography that I have improved on. I don’t dislike these images but they reflect my skill level at the time. I will share some of my lessons with you and would love to hear your critique as well. It is always good to go back to older photo shoots to either reinforce something you have learned from that photo session and to critique the images to improve your photos. These images appear in the condition they were provided to Jen and Ashlee back in 2010. The above image was more of a casual one and not posed. While I quite like this one – and did at the time – I do feel it is a bit awkward in its composition. It is a bit heavy on the right and […]
**Flashback Friday** There is something special about a maternity photo session. The excitement and anticipation give it a different energy to all other sessions. With this little baby due any day now, I thought this was an appropriate post for the first flashback Friday. Sarah was 34 weeks pregnant.
