These guys actually live in Melbourne but were bringing their boy up to family for Christmas and asked me to spend some time with them capturing some family photos of their first family trip to Sydney. We started at Josh’s Mum’s place and headed to a nearby park for Emmett’s first go on a swing! After a little while in the park it was time to head back and get some food in to Emmett and of course I wanted to stick around for that! Thank you so much for having me come along to your Christmas holiday and photograph your gorgeous family!
I spent a morning with the Duck family and it was such a hoot! I knew when mum, Lisa, approached me with her idea that this would be an excellent session. Lisa said she was having a quick shower one school morning and took a moment to look around her, thought about the kind of mornings they have before school and decided THAT is what she wants me to photograph. My eyes grew large and my smile even larger as she described a typical weekday morning at her house. I arrived before the kids had woken up. After a quick (and quiet) tour of the house, I got started. The kids had been told that I was coming to take photos and that they didn’t need to look at the camera or smile, just do their normal thing. Everyone was excellent at just being their normal, though I am told that the eldest isn’t usually so well behaved 😉 After viewing the images, Lisa affirmed why I find this style of photography so important. Saying she thought it wouldn’t be for another 30 years that she would look back fondly on these mornings but through the images I created she […]
I love my job. There are amazing people who allow me in to their home at what is quite a vulnerable time, first-time parenthood. As cliched as it sounds, they open their hearts to me when they open that door. By the end of a documentary newborn session, I have likely witnessed some skin to skin contact with their baby, breastfeeding and all the exposure that goes with learning the art and skill of providing this natural nourishment, heard voices crack or grabbed a tissue for tears as birth stories or this all consuming love are relayed to me or supported them through some of the tougher aspects of life with a newborn. It is such a special time, those early weeks with your baby and I am truly so grateful to anyone who invites me in to this sacred space. To document these days that are hard to recall as your baby grows. Newborns are seriously awesome little creatures. Jupiter was the most adorably squeaky munchkin I have had the pleasure of photographing. In planning their session, Jupiter’s parents wanted me to document the following, some of which appear below: * Changing her nappy/clothes because she doesn’t like it so […]
I have been following this family with my camera for quite some time now. Full disclosure, Sarah is my sister but I am so grateful that she and her husband have embraced my photography and let me just do my thing during their sessions. I did a maternity session with them for their first child but my style and artistic vision has changed since then and they were very happy to accommodate this. They have followed my journey and always been accepting of my enthusiasm when I ask if I can photograph them at various times. A maternity session aims to document your life as it is before the arrival of your baby be it your first, second, third or fourth. We work together to determine what you would like captured and then on the day, I am a fly on the wall as that unfolds. In the gallery below you can see that I don’t exactly focus on the ‘baby bump’ in a lot of the shots but it is evident and a part of the story the images are telling. Sarah and Danusha wanted to have the preparation, such as washing the new clothes and preparing Big Brother, as […]
