The camera hasn’t been pointed at my family much this last month but I did get it out a little recently.
Olive had been playing with a leaf and some grass (a shield and sword) when the leaf ripped. She was pretty upset and asked if we could sew it back together. That is the story o how Olive learned to sew. She wanted to take it back outside “where it belongs” and asked for a photo with it.
While a lot of the photographers in this blog circle are moving out summer, we are moving out of what was a pretty mild winter. The sun was definitely out and warm. The kind of day that calls for bare feet, tree climbing and swings.
The 10 on 10 is a blog circle project. The goal is to write a blog post to be published on the tenth day of the month and for the post to feature ten photographs taken on the same day or ten favourites from the previous month. At the end of the post, there is a link to the next photographer so be sure to click through!
Oh and we saw a brushtail possum with her baby in the garage. Gorgeous creatures.
To keep moving around the circle and to see beautiful images, head to Anna Hurley and be inspired by her 10 on 10 post.
What a fun afternoon! I’m having one of those spells, too, where I don’t photograph my family as much as usual. But as I said to someone else, I feel like taking a break now and then can only be a good thing in the long run.
I think you are right there. Some days my head feels like it has enough going on without also ‘seeking moments’ or thinking creatively. Many live and breathe photography/creativity and that is great – they are lucky, I guess. My desire to want to photograph everything or see the beauty in it all waxes and wanes. I know if I have an increase in client work, my family gets photographed less as well.
What a sweet story! It’s always fun when we can take an opportunity to teach our children a new skill for a fun reason. Those possums are super cute! They are definitely cuter than our scary old possums! Hahaha!
I was surprised by how quickly she took it up. I thought i would need to be beside her the whole time. I am grateful I was able to duck off and get the camera.
Oh yes, your possums are so scary! Ours have claws and teeth as well (and will make a mess if they get in your roof cavity) but the shorter snout and smaller mouths makes for a much cuter marsupial.
Oh I love this little story about sewing the leaf back together. It feels like the makings of a children’s book.
Thanks, Shea. Oh what a lovely idea!
So cute, love that she wanted to sew it back together. Such great memories for you and her.
It was an unexpected request but one I was very happy to oblige. She was so careful not to pull the stitches too tight and everything. It was very sweet.
I love this! Such a simple thing but a great moment to document. And those possums are so cool!
I was definitely grateful the camera was charged and ready to go when she was sewing. Our possums are pretty cute (but will still get aggressive if you upset them)!
I love how something so simple makes for a beautiful story!
Thank you. I really loved it, how she turned being so upset at the tear to a sewing lesson. She was so proud of herself for sewing it back together.
